from Stewartstown News for Feb 7, 1918 in DAR File copied from records
in the York Co Historical Society. BK Anstine Mr. BK Anstine, of town,
died last Thursday. Several weeks ago he fell down stairs at his home
and suffered injuries to his head and spine, from which he never
recovered. Death however came very unexpectedly. He was aged 79 and 9
days. He came from a long lived family. Of his fathers' family there
were four sons and nine daughters and none of them died under the half
century mark, some living to be more then eighty. He was one of
Stewartstown's few survivors of the Civil War having been a member of
the 87th Regiment Penna. volunteers. Three of his grandsons are now in
the military service: Roy, Robert, and Reed Anstine. He had been for
many years identified with the Methodist Church from which place the
funeral services were held on Monday afternoon. The body was laid to
rest in the Stewartstown cemetery. Deceased is survived by three sons
and two daughters: Rev. WRS Anstine of Reynolds, Neb, Harry W. and John
E. Anstine of town; Mrs. Harry Ziegler, of Loganville, and Mrs. Olive
Kelley of Schnectady, NY of his brothers and sisters there is but one
survivor, Mrs. Leah Kurtz. Name Source: Ibid, 3". Birth Source:

8. Johan George5 Anstein,
born 24 Nov 1758 in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania; died 30 May 1846 in
Hopewell Township, York County, Pennsylvania, son of 10. Johan Jürg
Anstein and 11. Catharina Bürger. He married (1) aft 1778 9. Anna
Barbara Scharer, born 3 Feb 1765 in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania;
died 20 Nov 1815 in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, daughter of 12. Jacob
Scharer and 13. (---) Catharina; (2) on 12 Mar 1820 in York,
Pennsylvania Hester Matthews, born 16 Aug 1779; died 4 Mar
1864 in Stewartstown, Pennsylvania.
Notes for Johan George Anstein
Jon was the first son of Hans George and
Catherine that lived. No wonder as all the traveling around and hiding
that they did.
This is one of three sons of the
immigrant Hans Georg Anstine who served their country in military
service during the American Revolution. There is a reference to
George's age that differs with the 24 November 1761 date, and that is
in the records of the Faulkner's Swamp Church, whose records show a year
of 1758 for his birth, which I believe to be incorrect. To date
three individuals have filed applications for membership in the DAR/SAR
as descendants of this man. The registry numbers are NSDAR # 511,649 &
# 508,544, with my own membership #144,308 being in the SAR. All
references to this George Anstine relating to his dates of birth and
death refer to the dates as 24 November 1761 and 30 May 1846; all, that
is, except the dates shown in the records of the Falkners Swamp
Lutheran Church of Montgomery County, Pa. ( where they were all
reported to have baptized ) which shows the very same day and month for
birth and death BUT three years earlier! ( 24 November 1758 and 30 May
1843 ). I can not reconcile this discrepancy, nor can I bring myself
to believe that there were two Johan Georg Anstines with the same
dates three years apart. Therefore, I am going to assume that they are
one and the same person. And, because of the many references to 1761 &
1846, I will subscribe to these dates as being "more correct" than the
other. George's son John shown could have been born after Johan
Georg was discharged from the Revolutionary Army on 16 October 1780;
before Catherine on 23 May 1782; OR he may have been born in the
period between Elizabeth in 1784 and Henry in 1791. I think the latter
is the most probable.

"George ANSTINE, died May 30, 1816, 81?
yrs, 6 mos & 6 days. (O)"
Codicil of Last Will and Testament of
George Anstine is dated 3/27/1841, and therefore death is after this
3/27/1841. On 9/28/1998 Ron Johnson determines there is wash and wear
on the number one in 1816 in a photograph of George Anstine's
tombstone. During the same telephone conversation with Ron, Frank
Schmuck uses deductive reasoning concluding consistent wash and wear of
the tombstone erroded the left side of the number 4 erroneously
indicating a 1. Therfore 1816 is really 1846 and 81? years is really 84
years which makes the death 5/30/1846. His birth Birth date by way of
84 yrs 6 mos & 6 days from this death date is 11/24/1758 which is
confimed in Pennsylvania German Church Records Volume 2 page 147 as
11/24/1758.

Catherine seems to have disconnected herself from the family as she is
not named in any baptisms nor other affairs that are recorded in the
town of Stewartstown or the Church at Sadler's. She does not seem to
have been married, though she is named favorably in her fathers will.
She was herself buried at Blymire's Church Cemetery about 10 miles or
so north of Sadler's Church, near Dallastown, Pa. It seems she had left
the immediate area of her father's farm, mills, church, and perhaps ..
influence. See the notes for Catherine for more light on this matter

Concerning Elizabeth Anstine, daughter of George & Anna Barbara (Sherer)
Anstine, I make the following observation .. she is buried at Sadler's
Cemetery with her mother & father, and it would seem to me that if she
were married to a responsible man and died at the age of 39 years,
would not her husband obtain his own burial site where he might later
be buried with his wife ? I suggest that it was Elizabeth's father
George who determined where his daughter Elizabeth was buried, and that
due to her having never been married Name Source: Ibid, 3". Birth

[JessieAnstineV43t0031.ftw] Hazel Blasser suggests that Elizabeth was
the first wife of Joseph Leib, and after her death in 1823 at age 39
years, Joseph Leib married her younger sister Barbara. If this were so
then the mother of all three of Joseph Leib's children would have been
Elizabeth, and NOT Barbara. However, the records of Sadler's Lutheran

from Rotterdam on the Neptune Sept 24, 1751. John Mason from Rotterdam
was Captain with 284 Passengers. Taken from "A collection of Upwards of
30,000 names of german Immigrants in Pennsylvania from 1727 -1776")
Married Catherine Burger or Ringer (Not
sure of last name) 8 Oct 1753.
Had 10 children. (No knowledge of 6 of
the children)Hans George Anstine, Von Einstine, Anstein arrived from
Rotterdam and Cowes at the philadelphia landing on the ship Neptune with
Christian Blaser and British consumption. Then left to go to Canada and
later fleed from there to avoid conscription British Army. He then took
his family to Wyoming Valley, now in Luzerne Co. along the north branch
of the susquehanna River. This area was claimed by both Conneticut and
Pennsylvania, there was constant conflict between the settlers.
Meanwhile the Indians were massacring both factions. Hans George left
with his family to York county where he bought 315 acres in Windsor
township for $2,000 in gold and silver coins from Christian Sailor on
April 3, 1782. During the Revolutionary War his son John had strong
British sympathies and moved to Charlston So. Carolina. Charleston was
under British control for 2 years after our independence. (John listed
in 1820 census). The Wyoming Massacre happened in 1788. This
information coming from Lena Booth's research. From Becky of
Dallastown, PA. She is Anstine by Marriage to William Rollin Anstine.
Now coming from Eddna Ankany, granddaughter of George M. Anstine and
Janice Anstine Fischer. Hans George was born in Wurtongton, Germany.
